Bob and I, along with Kristen and Laura (two staff girls here) had the privilege of taking the Clays to “see the sights” of Khon Kaen on Saturday. The tour included a drive to the King Cobra Village, which none of us had ever been to before.
The King Cobra Village Show consists on men taking turns boxing cobras on a stage for a minute. There were about 8 cobra boxers, so we got to see 8 different men box 8 different cobras. It’s crazy thinking that one the deadliest snakes in the world is 15 feet in front of you. Not to mention there’s not a hospital within 15 minutes of the village which means if you get bit, you’re more than likely going to die.
Let’s just say during the show, I was on the edge of my seat most of the time wondering if the snakes were going to jump off the stage first or bite the men who were boxing them. They also had children “boxing” snakes at the end. Bob informed me that the kids “boxed” non-venomous, water snakes. We did see some men missing some of their fingers (I think the snakes have “won” a handful of times in the past). Needless to say, this was a trip for the memory books!
